GAS in brief:
I retired from the position of Chief Inspector, Petroleum and Gas with the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy on 1 August 2008 and commenced a consultancy, "Gas Advisory Services" (note the cunning acronym), on the following Monday. It was hardly any time before I had my first job, a letter for a legal firm, and this was quickly follwed by other, and much larger, jobs.
After a month or so, I decided to turn this consultancy into a company and so Gas Advisory Services Pty Ltd burst into life on 1 October 2008. Since its inception, GAS has worked for more than 40 clients ranging from the mighty (Rio-Tinto/Bechtel, Santos & LPGA) to the humble including small LPG distributors and a campervan manufacturer.
Every job has been fascinating and has given me great satisfaction to work with such dedicated and talented people. It is pleasing to say that I am now receiving repeat business in a number of areas.
In the past 2 years I have distributed more than 850 business cards, 700 newsletters, 35 GAS hats, 45 GAS yoyos and 38 GAS stubby holders. Just released are the GAS Paperweight Men. I have issued 34 type B approvals covering more than 120 gas devices, have undertaken a number of major risk assessments, completed seven full Safety Management Plans, have developed and undertaken training sessions, undertaken acident investigations, provided assistance in legal cases and developed major project authorisation and other submissions.
My heartfelt thanks to those of you who gave me a chance to improve your business and, for those of you who have yet to do so, something good waits in store.
