| Note on Codes: Every person mentioned has a code which describes their relationship to me. This is very useful when names are re-used from generation to generation as happens so much in Scots tradition. The code uses combinations of 6 letters F=father, M=mother; S=sibling; D=descendant; H=husband; W=wife together with numerals to show order. So my father is F. His eldest sibling is S1 (in this case S2 is not used as he was second born). Where two possible codes are available the simpler one is used. In a more complex example, my second wife’s fifth sibling’s second child is W2S5D2. |
The earliest ancestor I have found is Robert Stewart (FMFFFFF) (B~1734) who married Elspit Edie (FMFFFFM). Their only known child was John Stewart (FMFFFF) (B 1759—Alloa Scotland) who married Betty Jaffrey (FMFFFM) and they had one known son also John Stewart (FMFFF) (B 1781). Dates of death are not known for these ancestors. John Stewart married Janet Taylor (FMFFM) (B 21 May 1786) on 12 May 1799 and they had three children, William Stewart (FMFFS1) (B 2 Feb 1805), James Stewart (FMFFS2) (B 4 Jan 1807)and Alexander Stewart (FMFF) (B 26 Nov 1808 D 13 Mar 1853). Alexander Stewart was a farm labourer at Dollarbeg (near Stirling) in Scotland. On 21 Mar 1835 he married Isabella Carmichael (FMFM) (B 1814 D 1 Jun 1905) in Dollar, Scotland. Alexander and Isabella had seven children, Helen Stewart (FMFS1) (B 3 Nov 1835 D 1922) John Stewart (FMFS2) (B 29 Jun 1837 D 1 Dec 1920) Robert Stewart (FMF) (B 15 Jul 1839) James Stewart (FMFS4) (B 1842 D 1913) Jane Stewart (FMFS5) (B ~1845) Isabella Stewart (FMFS6) (B 1847 D 1894)and Alexander Stewart (B 1849 D 8 May 1940). The next part of the Stewart adventure leads them to Australia Stewart Tree |
